Our sweet girl turned 13 over the weekend. Her only request…to see WICKED. No party. No wish list of gifts. She just wanted to see, for her own eyes, the soundtrack she had memorized come to life. For a child who asks for very little, expects nothing but genuinely appreciates everything you do for her, it was difficult to say no. Since the show wasn’t on tour in our area and we’re just a 3.5 hour car drive away, we loaded up at the crack of dawn for our 2pm showing. This was the first time in NYC for our two youngest. The city was still full of slush and a bit dreary from this crazy long winter, but the girls didn’t mind. They were so over joyed and visually stimulated that the first night we were back in our room by 8pm. The next morning, our first stop…Magnolia’s! Oh my, if you haven’t experienced the sugary delight that is a Magnolia cupcake, get yourself to one of their locations next time you’re in the city. If there’s a line. Wait. It’s absolutely worth it. Our plan was to eat them in Central Park after ice skating. However, our tired feet and frozen hands convinced us to abandon that plan for a horse drawn carriage ride. (I now have some pretty strong feelings about the horses and their work, but I won’t go there right now.) On to The Plaza for lunch and a visit with Elosie! I wish my girls were still young enough to have fully experienced the tea room. So darling! Think pink! It’s a been a few years since we’ve been inside The Plaza and we were pleasantly surprised to see the new downstairs renovations. Let me just say, it’s not Harrod’s, but The Todd English Food Hall….oh my word! So delish! I could write a whole post and fill it with tons of pictures, but I can’t. Why? Because, I’m such nerd. I get really uncomfortable taking pictures while traveling. It’s weird. I know. I do it for a living, but I hate looking like a picture crazed tourist.
So here’s a few black & white’s from the trip. I took my small camera to document the weekend for our birthday girl. Enjoy!
